September is Be Kind to Writers and Editors Month.

It’s a professional communicators’ holiday, and it lasts for the enter month. Who knew?

OK, I have to wonder. Does this affect readers’ comments (or no comments)? Or does it apply strictly to interactions between writers and editors themselves?

Either way, let’s raise a toast – or a well-sharpened pencil – to this fine occasion.

Write on, wordsmiths.

Fun with grammar: Cats vs commas

Who says grammar and language mechanics can’t be fun?

I’m not sure who invented this quirky little riddle, but here it is.

Q:  What’s the difference between a cat and a comma?

Got it?

Here’s the answer, if you haven’t figured it out for yourself (or heard this one already).

A: A cat has claws at the end of its paws, but a comma is a pause at the end of a clause.

OK, that’s not always true, but it’s good for a little grammatical chuckle or two. And to an editor, that may be the cat’s meow.
