Intents and purposes
or intensive purposes – Mixed messages and misused words from A to Z
Can you imagine the inconsistencies that occur when these
two phrases are interchanged? May it not be so!
We may, for all intents and purposes, choose to use the correct wordings,
even if our purposes are intense. In such instances, even intensive
purposes may call for the initiation of clearer language, for all intents
and purposes.
That sounds repetitive and pretty intense, even for folks
who live in tents for all intents and purposes. But I’d bet
you know the difference now, and that was my intent.
